DESIERTO LAKE OFF THE BEATEN PATH

This is a great way to explore a part of El Chalten that isn't seen by most.  After an icredibly scenic drive that follows the Vueltas River, you'll reach the Desierto Lake and its deep blue waters.  From there you can choose a more challenging  1 hour hike up to a wonderful lookout point at the base of the Huemul glacier or a relaxing navigation along the lake to enjoy the scenery.  Later in the day you'll enjoy an authentic cookout at a base camp set along the shores of the Vueltas River .  The are is also an ideal location for bird watching or to simply relax and absorb the scenery.
